When Jordan first told me the real reason why
Gatsby lived in West Egg and why he threw all these parties I felt sympathy for
him. Everything he did it seemed, he did to be close to Daisy. Gatsby as a
person intrigued me and for some unknown reason I had a profound amount of respect
for him and I had just met him. When I invited him over for tea with Daisy I honestly
did it as a favor to a soon to be friend. I mean I already knew if he would go
through all this trouble just to see her, that imminently makes him a better
man for Daisy than Tom. As her cousin, I feel it my responsibility to watch
over Daisy and protect her. Gatsby’s love for her seemed like a way to protect
her from her marriage with Tom. Even though I didn’t know Gatsby that well yet,
I knew he wouldn’t do anything to hurt Daisy and had her best interest in mind.
What I didn’t think all the way through was if Daisy had Gatsby’s best interest
in mind. Also after personally inviting me to his house party, I felt like
hosting him at my house for some tea was a great way to return the friendly
neighborhood gesture. And how could I say no when Gatsby keep looking at me
with those eyes full of hope. I could tell this meant a lot to him and he had
been waiting a very long time for this opportunity to come.

ReplyDeleteI knew you would feel sympathy for Gatsby after you found out the real reason as to why he threw those parties. I had you ask him before because it is a sensitive topic for him. I also feel sympathy for him because everything he did was for Daisy but she also had feelings for Tom. It was a shame how he did everytjing for her and in the end he ended up being shot and killed for taking her blame.

Nick- I cant thank you enough for doing this! I am so happy that I was able to reconnect with Gatsby. It means a lot to know that you have my best interest in your heart. I can never re-pay you for setting this tea up. I will always have your back if you need me.
